Can You Download Private TikTok Videos? Honest Answer
No. If a video is private, friends-only, or has downloads disabled, no browser tool, app, or website can legitimately pull it, and you should be suspicious of anywhere that claims otherwise.

Why the answer is simply no
A downloader works by reading the public data that TikTok already serves to anyone with the link, the same way your browser fetches an image from a public webpage. A private account restricts that data to approved followers only, at the server level. There is no version of the file available to fetch from outside that circle, so there is nothing for any tool, including ours, to retrieve.
The same logic applies to download-disabled posts, just at a smaller scale. The creator has set a flag that tells TikTok not to serve a downloadable file for that specific video, even though the video itself is public and playable in the app. That flag is enforced by TikTok, not by the app you are viewing it in, so there is no toggle or trick on our end that changes it.
Be careful: any site or app that claims it can unlock a private TikTok account, or bypass a follow request, is either lying to collect ad revenue and your data, or actively distributing malware. Close those tabs and do not enter your TikTok login anywhere except tiktok.com or the official app.
What 'download disabled' actually looks like
When a creator turns this off, the share sheet for that video simply removes the save option inside the TikTok app itself. If you paste that video's link into any downloader, including ours, you will get an error or a message saying the download is unavailable, rather than a file. That response is TikTok's server declining the request, and it is the correct, expected outcome.

What you can legitimately do instead
- Ask the creator directly. A message asking for a copy of their own video is normal and often works, especially if you know them.
- Request the raw file. If it is for a project or collaboration, ask them to send the original export rather than trying to pull anything from the app.
- Send a follow request. If the account is private and you have a genuine reason to see their posts, ask to follow like anyone else would.
- Use TikTok's own save option for your own videos. If the private or restricted account is yours, TikTok lets you save your own uploads directly from the app, no third-party tool needed.
- For anything public, use a proper downloader. Once a post is public and downloads are enabled, tools like the one on our homepage work exactly as intended.
The privacy and legal side of this
Trying to get around a privacy setting, even out of curiosity, sits in uncomfortable territory. Private accounts exist because someone chose to limit their audience, and going around that choice, through a shady app or a follow-request trick, undermines the reason they set it up in the first place. Beyond the ethics, some workaround tools ask for your TikTok password or session details, which is a serious account security risk with no real upside for you. Our page on whether downloading TikTok content is legal covers the broader picture if you want more detail.

If you find your own private or restricted video has been downloaded and reposted somewhere without permission, that is worth acting on. Report it to TikTok directly, and if it has been reposted elsewhere on the web, our DMCA page explains how to file a takedown request. You can also reach our support team if you have questions about how our tool handles restricted content, and check common download errors if you keep hitting a wall on posts you believe are public.
